Marc Randazza is a free speech lawyer that specializes in representing neo-nazis and far right personalities. His client list has included Andrew Anglin, Mike Cernovich and most recently Infowars and Alex Jones in their case against the families of Sandy Hook, who are suing Jones for defamation after claiming the mass shooting was a hoax.
“We are going to be mounting a strong First Amendment defense and look forward to this being resolved in a civil and collegial manner,” Randazza told the New York Times about the Sandy Hook case. “Mr. Jones has a great deal of compassion for the parents.” This statement from Randazza came on the heels of Jones explaining to millions of viewers, “Sandy Hook is a 100% manufactured, government planned hoax. At first I thought some kids died there, but now I’ve come to terms with the fact they didn’t.”
Yesterday, in an ill-advised move, Randazza took to Reddit to do an Ask Me Anything in the Politics subreddit. The AMA started out relatively tame, with users asking Randazza how he decided to become a first amendment lawyer.
“Well, I got to law school. My campaign poster for student bar association was a page from the City Paper that had a quote from a guy who was not happy with his penile implant. “you could hit my penis with a sledgehammer and I wouldn’t even feel it.” Underneath, “Vote Marco, 100% real, no insensitive dick.” The “Women’s Legal Alliance” tore down all my posters, and I was called to the dean’s office to answer for my “crimes.” I flipped out and said “This is political speech, and these whiny school marms are tearing down my posters, and I’m the fucking one here being told I’m in trouble?”
The conversation veered sharply south when users began questioning his work with serial rapist, Mike Cernovich. Initially, Randazza said that he, “agreed with some of what Cernovich did and strongly disagreed with other things.”
Redditors didn’t let Randazza off the hook that easily though. “Cernovich is, a flat-out white supremacist. He’s tweeted, “I went from libertarian to alt-right after realizing tolerance only went one way and diversity is code for white genocide. He also said, ‘Rape via an alpha male is different from other forms of rape. We can’t really understand this, as our culture is too detached from instinct.'”
In response, Randazza claimed that this was shaming the BDSM community. “I can tell you that a significant portion of what you’ve written there are clear fabrications. I also find it quite interesting that you’re trying to essentially shame a sexual minority (BDSM adherent) because you politically disagree with them. Nice, Reed.”
The AMA hit rock bottom for Randazza after he alleged Cernovich was a good person. “Good people don’t rape other people bud,” a Redditor explained. “Well, it’s a good thing that Mike has never raped anyone,” Randazza lied. No one believed Randazza though. Instead they offered him some life advice, “Sounds like you need to meet more human beings.”
